- During this enrolment period, you will have several options to consider regarding your medical and dental coverage.
- Any new elections you make will be effective on Feb. 1, 2025.

Premium Increase from Canada Life
In October 2024, Canada Life notified us of an increase in medical and dental premiums for the rest of 2024 and all of 2025. Michaels initially absorbed the additional cost while evaluating its impact.
To continue offering valuable benefits and maintaining affordability, Michaels will cover most of the premium increase from Canada Life. However, a portion of the increase will be reflected in Team Member contributions for those enroled in the medical and dental plans.

The adjusted premiums will take effect on Feb. 1, 2025, in Workday unless you choose to waive or adjust your coverage.
Your Special Benefits Enrolment Options
As a result of the mid-year increase in premiums, Michaels is conducting a special benefits enrolment for medical and dental plans to give you the option to change or waive coverage for one or both plans if you wish to avoid paying the higher rates.
If you choose to waive coverage, you will not be required to provide a letter confirming coverage elsewhere.
If you previously waived medical and/or dental coverage, during this special benefits enrolment period, you will be able to enrol in medical and/or dental coverage with no Evidence of Insurability (EOI) required.

Am I Required to Make Changes?
No. If you choose to make no changes to your current medical and/or dental elections, your benefits will continue but at a higher premium rate.
If I Opt Out of Medical/Dental Coverage, Can I Enrol Later?
Yes. If your circumstances change, you and eligible family members may re-enrol in medical and/or dental coverage. You may be required to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI).
In order to re-enrol in coverage at a later date, you must have experienced a qualifying life event and make changes to your benefits within 31 days of the life event. If you have not experienced a qualifying life event, you will have to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI).

The EAP is a free and confidential resource available for you and your family — even if you’re not enrolled in a benefit plan through Michaels.

Tuition Assistance
Michaels offers tuition assistance to help you pay a portion of the cost for your college tuition or language programs for professional and personal development.
Most Team Members are eligible to receive up to $2,000 per year in assistance. To apply, you must meet all criteria outlined in the Tuition Reimbursement Policy (also available in French), and complete the necessary form. Adoption Assistance
Interested in adoption? You may be eligible for adoption assistance! Michaels will reimburse you up to $5,000 per adoption to help cover adoption fees, attorney fees, court costs, travel expenses, medical fees (for the child) and temporary foster care. To apply, you must meet all criteria outlined in the policy (available in French and English) and complete the necessary form within six months of the finalization of the adoption. Team Member Discount Card
The Michaels Team Member Discount Card offers you and your immediate family* 30% off regular- and sale-priced items at all Michaels stores and 70% off all custom framing. You will receive your discount card from your Supervisor — just present it when purchasing items to benefit from the savings! Be sure and use your Team Member Discount Card when planning your next craft activity.
*Immediate family members must live with the Team Member to qualify for the discount.
