Open Enrolment for 2026–2027 Plan Year

Open Enrolment is happening from May 18–29, 2026. Follow the link below to learn more about what changes you can make to your benefits for the 2026–2027 plan year.

Enroling in Benefits

If you’re a part-time Team Member in Saskatchewan and you regularly work at least 780 hours each year, Michaels offers you the following benefits:

  • Extended Health coverage, which includes medical and vision insurance that enhances or “extends” the coverage you receive from your provincial health plan.
  • Extended Dental coverage for you only.
  • Optional Life and AD&D coverage for you and/or your spouse.

You may enrol for Extended Health, Dental, and/or Optional Life and AD&D coverage after you complete 390 hours of service during your first 26 consecutive weeks of employment.

Dependant Eligibility for Extended Health & Dental Coverage

Extended Health and Dental coverage is available for your spouse by marriage or under any other formal union recognized by law, or your partner of the same or opposite sex who has been publicly represented as your spouse for at least 12 consecutive months.

For children, coverage is available if the child is:

  • your dependant child or your spouse/partner’s dependant child (other than foster children),
  • under age 21,
  • entirely dependent on you for financial support, and
  • not married or in any other formal union recognized by law.

If an enroled child becomes handicapped before age 21, their eligibility for Extended Health (medical and dental) coverage will continue as long as they are:

  • incapable of financial self-support because of a physical or mental disability,
  • entirely depend on you for financial support, and
  • are not married or in any other formal union recognized by law.

When Your Benefits Start

Your coverage is effective on the latest of:

  • the first of the month on or after you become eligible,
  • the date that you enrol for insurance, or
  • the date that Canada Life approves your Evidence of Insurability (EOI).

Dependant coverage is effective on the latest of:

  • the date you become eligible for dependant insurance,
  • the date that you request dependant insurance, or
  • the date that Canada Life determines the insurability of all of your dependants and approves at least one dependant.

Evidence of Insurability (EOI) Requirement

If you enrol more than 31 days after you first become eligible, you are considered a late entrant and you must submit Evidence of Insurability (EOI) for yourself and for each dependant you are enroling.

Regardless of when you enrol, EOI is required if you buy Optional Life or Optional AD&D coverage.

Adding Dependant(s) After Enrolment

If you have no dependant(s) when you enrol and later acquire one or more through birth of your first child or marriage, contact Canada Life for assistance. You can find Canada Life’s contact information in the “Provider” section of this page.

Health Care Coverage

Extended Health Insurance Coverage

With Extended Health coverage, you can select additional medical and/or vision Insurance that extends your province health plan benefits through Canada Life.

Dental Insurance Coverage

You can select additional dental insurance coverage through Canada Life.

You must enrol in this coverage when you are first eligible, or you will be considered a late entrant and limited to $250 in benefits for the first 12 months of coverage.

Life and AD&D Insurance Coverage

Michaels provides free Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage which provides financial protection to your beneficiary in the event of your death.

If you want additional financial protection, you may buy Optional Life and AD&D insurance, up to $250,000, for yourself and/or your spouse. You will pay the full cost of this coverage via monthly payroll deductions.

Enrol & Manage Your Benefits in Workday

You will use Workday to enrol in coverage and manage your benefit elections, dependant information, and beneficiary designations.

You can only change your benefit elections outside the annual open enrollment period if you experience a qualifying life event. For more information about qualifying life events, please visit this link: Change in Status.

Am I required to enrol or update my benefit elections?

Enrolment in Michaels medical and dental coverage is mandatory, unless you have coverage elsewhere. If at any point you are enroled in medical or dental coverage elsewhere, you must provide proof of other coverage to waive this requirement.

If you are already enroled in Michaels medical and dental coverage, and you choose not to make any changes to your current benefit elections during Open Enrolment, your benefits will continue at the premium rate(s) for the 2026–2027 plan year. To review these rates, please visit the Extended Health and Dental pages.

If I opt out of coverage now, can I re-enrol later?

Yes. If your circumstances change after Open Enrolment ends, you and eligible family members may enrol in coverage at a later date.

Requirements for Enroling Later

  • Remember to provide proof of other coverage if at any point you are enroled in medical and/or dental coverage not with Michaels.
  • In order to enrol in Michaels coverage at a later date, you must: 1) have experienced a qualifying life event (QLE), and 2) make changes to your benefits within 31 days of the life event. If you have not experienced a QLE, you will have to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI).

Waive Mandatory Coverage

If you wish to waive the mandatory Michaels medical and/or dental coverage during Open Enrolment, you must provide proof of other coverage.
