Getting Started with Enrolment

Eligibility & Coverage

As a full-time Team Member, you can enrol yourself and your eligible dependant(s) in most benefit plans as long as the eligibility requirements are met.

Plans & Rates

Biweekly premium costs will be automatically deducted from each paycheque based on the coverage you choose. You can find all plan rates on this website, located under “Benefits” in the navigation menu at the top of the page.

Medical, Vision & Dental Coverage

Michaels offers you the opportunity to select medical, vision, and dental coverage that extends your provincial health plan benefits. This “extra” coverage protects you from life’s expected — and unexpected — health expenses.

Life and AD&D Coverage

Michaels provides free Basic Life and AD&D Insurance with the option to elect additional coverage.

Qualifying Life Events

It will be important for you to understand when you can make changes to your benefits outside of the initial enrolment period, due to a qualifying life event, and how to request a Change in Status.

Enrolment Deadline & Effective Date

Your enrolment deadline is 30 days following your date of hire.

Your effective date, the day your Michaels coverage begins, is the 1st day of the calendar month that follows your first 30 days of service.

You can use the calculator below to calculate your enrolment deadline and effective date.

You must complete enrolment when you are first eligible. If you do not enrol when you are first eligible, you may be asked to complete a Statement of Health, and coverage may be denied.

Enrol & Manage Your Benefits

You will use Workday to enrol in coverage and manage your benefit elections, dependant information, and beneficiary designations.

Choose Wisely

After you enrol, you typically can’t make changes until the next open enrolment period. Changes are only allowed if you have a qualifying life event, such as birth, adoption, marriage, or divorce. In this case, changes must be made within 31 days of the event.
