This overview is meant to point you in the direction of how to use this website to locate detailed information about your benefit options, how to enrol in coverage, and the resources and programs available to you.
Always make sure that your employment status (either “Full-Time” or “Part-Time”) is displayed in bold text at the top of the screen so that you have access to the correct benefits information throughout this website. To change this, simply click or tap on the other status, and the website will automatically refresh to update your selection and feature only the information that is relevant to you.
Your Benefits Enrolment Timeline
You may enrol upon your date of hire or becoming full-time and you have until 30 days after your benefits are effective to complete your enrolment.
You must complete enrolment when you are first eligible. If you do not enrol when you are first eligible, you may be asked to complete a Statement of Health, and coverage may be denied.
IMPORTANT: Enrol as soon as possible to ensure your benefit coverage is set up with the health providers and to avoid any premium retro payments deducted from your paycheck to the effective date of your coverage. Use the calculator below to help you determine these important dates and make sure to enrol by your deadline.
How to Review Your Benefit Options
You can access your Michaels benefits information a few different ways:
- Browse through this website using the navigation menu at the top of every page: this is the most extensive, up-to-date resource for Michaels employee benefits.
- Review, download, and/or print the Benefits at a Glance for a quick overview of current benefit offerings.

Plans & Rates
Biweekly premium costs will be automatically deducted from each paycheque based on the coverage you choose. You can find all plan rates on this website.
Medical, Vision & Dental Coverage
Michaels offers you the opportunity to select medical, vision, and dental coverage that extends your provincial health plan benefits. This “extra” coverage protects you from life’s expected — and unexpected — health expenses.
Life and AD&D Coverage
Michaels provides free Basic Life and AD&D coverage with the option to elect additional coverage.
Qualifying Life Events
It will be important for you to understand when you can make changes to your benefits outside of the initial enrolment period, due to a qualifying life event, and how to request a Change in Status.
Enrol Online
You will use Workday to enrol in coverage and manage your benefit elections, dependant information, and beneficiary designations.
Choose Wisely
After you enrol, you typically can’t make changes until the next open enrolment period. Changes are only allowed if you have a qualifying life event, such as birth, adoption, marriage, or divorce. In this case, changes must be made within 31 days of the event.
When Your Coverage Begins
You
Your coverage is effective on the latest of:
- the first of the month on or after you become eligible,
- the date that you enrol for insurance, or
- the date that Canada Life approves your Evidence of Insurability (EOI).
Your Dependant(s)
Dependant coverage is effective on the latest of:
- The date you become eligible for dependant insurance,
- The date that you request dependant insurance, or
- The date that Canada Life determines the insurability of all of your dependants and approves at least one dependant.
Enroling in Voluntary Coverage
If you’re a part-time Team Member in Saskatchewan who regularly works at least 780 hours each year, you may enrol for Extended Health and Dental coverage after you complete 390 hours of service during your first 26 consecutive weeks of employment.
- If you enrol more than 31 days after you first become eligible, you are considered a late entrant and you must submit Evidence of Insurability (EOI) for yourself and for each dependant you are enroling.
- If you have no dependant(s) when you enrol and later acquire one or more through birth of your first child or marriage, contact Canada Life for assistance.
